Her dream was to leave.
How many years had she spent in the same job, with the same people…
The same birthdays, the same conversations, the same meetings, the same everyday life.
And that question kept echoing inside: Is there still a chance to change something?
Does she really have to spend her whole life here, never knowing how it is somewhere else?
A new country felt so exciting.
A new life.
New opportunities.
But on the other hand… she felt drawn to that place, while her whole family was still here.
And that’s how it began: the guilt, and all those thoughts.
Why should she feel guilty for her dreams?
For having the courage that maybe others don’t have?
What a strange pattern.
At first, the longing was immense.
It felt like being thrown straight into the heart of some emotional chaos.
But with time, new connections started to appear.
A new culture.
An increasing freedom in speaking that “foreign” language…
And suddenly – she didn’t want to rush back for the holidays as much anymore.
Because there…
…you have to share the wafer (do we really believe in those wishes we make once a year?),
…pretend to be someone you’re no longer,
…have the same conversations that stopped feeling like yours long ago.
And then came the anger.
Why is she doing this to herself?
She could have rested.
She began to notice that with every return, she was neglecting herself.
She wasn’t resting the way she truly needed – in peace, in silence, in her own rhythm.
She was fulfilling others’ expectations instead of honoring her own needs.
And when she finally didn’t go – to one of those holidays or yet another wedding –
that familiar feeling came again:
– It’s a shame you weren’t there.
– Everyone asked about you.
– I didn’t know what to say…
And again, guilt.
She had let them down. Her family had to explain for her.
Does this sound familiar?
It’s that endless circle – the guilt of being there, but not here.
Choosing herself. Changing.
No longer fitting into the old mold.
