Space for Decisions – How to Be Present Without Imposing

Being with someone who is facing a life-changing decision is a real challenge.

No matter if you are a partner, parent, brother, sister, or friend — remember that your role is to give that person space.
Space where they can hear themselves before hearing anything from the outside.

Before you give advice, before you say what they should do, pause.
Count to three.
Ask if they really want to hear your advice.
Ask what they need in this moment.

Accompanying someone through decisions is a responsibility.
You are not the one making the decision for them.
It’s not your fears, desires, or expectations that should decide.

The decision belongs to that person.
It should be their own choice — from deep within themselves, not layered with others’ influences or expectations.

Be a mindful companion on that path.
Let them feel they have the right to be themselves — with all the chaos, fear, and hope.

And that is real help.
